Jaheira & Street Urchin: Token Tycoon Gruul Deck Tech

September 2, 2025

Intro

This deck is my comfort food! Sitting at rank #1470 is Jaheira, Friend of the Forest with a Street Urchin background! The plan is elegantly simple. I make an irresponsible number of tokens, tap them for green mana with Jaheira out, then dump that mana into X-spells that… make even more tokens (or just roast the table). From there you either (1) swing with a hasty swarm, (2) ping everyone to crumbs with Street Urchin/Goblin Bombardment, or (3) light the stack on fire with a gigantic X burn spell!!!

Archidekt Link

tldr; Spam tokens -> tap them for green via Jaheira -> cast X token-makers/burn -> copy/double/hastify -> finish with Devilish Valet/Impact Tremors/Street Urchin or a big X to the dome! For goldfishing, I tend to get to winning states by turn 6–7.

The Overall Gameplan

  1. Get tokens out via any way possible
  2. Cast Jaheira (make sure you can at least cast one spell after she lands)
  3. Explode with tokens
  4. Swing, ping, or burn your opponents

In the Details

Core Loop (a.k.a. “The Salad Bar”)

Make Tokens: I used to make this deck focused around Treasure token synergies, and while that was fun, I found it a bit too slow and clunky. I often found myself having to spend my Treasures early for defense and then not having enough to win the game. So I pivoted to a more straightforward token plan. The deck now has a variety of token sources that can be categorized into:

Spend it! Once you have 2–3+ tokens, it's time to cast Jaheira, Friend of the Forest and start tapping them for mana. I prefer to have at least one spell to cast as soon as she lands, just in case she doesn't make it to my next turn. From there, the goal is to use the extra mana to make even more mana!

All Jaheira does is let you tap tokens for mana, so she isn't generally on the radar compared to other more dangerous commanders. Even if she is removed, you should have enough lands to recast her, then access that sweet token mana again.

One thing to note is that the mana Jaheira lets you tap for is green mana, so use your red sources sparingly.

Ramp it up: With all the mana, your real goal is to find and cast big X spells that will make you even more tokens. With Song of Totentanz and Tempt with Vengeance, the tokens enter with haste, so you can tap them right away for another spell! I’ve also added a few cards that grant haste to everything like Roar of Resistance and Anger to make sure you can tap or attack immediately.

Finish 'em off: Once you have a ridiculous number of tokens, it's time to turn them into lethal. Three main paths:

Pro tip: Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss supercharges the Jaheira plan. Tokens with mana abilities get +2/+2 (and trample from the big trigger), and they untap on attack.

Interaction & Protection (a.k.a. “Let me do my thing”)

Spot/Board Insurance: Jaheira doesn't need much protection as it's possible to tap all your tokens for mana in response to her being targeted, but just in case, I have Royal Treatment and Tamiyo’s Safekeeping. One of my favorite surprises is to leave my board “tapped out” to look open, only to play Arachnogenesis or Galadhrim Ambush to fog and make more tokens. And in the case of a board wipe, Fresh Meat punishes wipes by rebuying a board of 3/3s.

Artifact/Enchant hate that pays you: Pest Infestation scales and creates tons of Pests. Artifact Mutation is also good to get a pile of Insects. Powder Ganger is another great option to remove a ton of artifacts while making bodies.

Tableshooting: Rose Room Treasurer, Roxanne, Starfall Savant, Gift of the Viper slot into removal pressure, token output, or advantage. Gift of the Viper with Street Urchin is especially rude if Jaheira deals the damage, deathtouch turns 1-damage pings into creature kill spells.

Need Some Cards?

This deck can run out of steam pretty quickly, so I've included some great card draw that works well with Jaheira.

Draw and Make Tokens: Big Score, Unexpected Windfall, Seize the Spoils, and Collector's Vault all let you draw, rummage, and make Treasures.

Impulsive Tokens: Bonehoard Dracosaur and Glimpse the Impossible grant access to more cards while also making tokens. You move your board forward either way.

Hostage Situation: Seize the Spotlight often becomes “draw three, make three Treasures” because opponents don’t want their creatures stolen (and potentially thrown into Street Urchin).

Street Urchin package: Snake Umbra and Keen Sense will draw you cards when enchanted Jaheira pings an opponent (they trigger on any damage, not just combat). Skullclamp turns your expendable 1/1s into “draw 2." Put them together and you can draw three cards for every ping!

Mulligans & Keepable Opens

I always look for at least two lands with either some ramp or a cheap token-maker I can use once Jaheira is out. If you have Academy Manufactor, Noble's Purse, or Kibo, Uktabi Prince, it's an easy keep as they can make tokens and ramp you incredibly fast. You generally don't want to fire off any X spells until X ≥ 5.

Good early hands can also include any of the Treasure-draws like Big Score/Unexpected Windfall and a follow-up token maker.

Subpackage Highlights

  • Fast Mode Descent into Avernus is one of my favorite cards to speed up a game. It brings everyones life totals down while giving them Treasure tokens. But you take advantage of the Treasures and bringing everyone down lowers the ceiling to ping them.
  • Balloons Hornet Nest and Termagant Swarm are great for "don't touch me" protection. But can double for more critters when needed. Just snipe hornets nest with Rose Room Treasurer to awaken the hive.

Combos & Micro-Synergies

Other Options

This deck is pretty flexible, and I've taken in in many directions, I'm sure that it's still not "finished", but here are some other avenues I've used before:

Damage Doubling: Dictate of the Twin Gods, Gratuitous Violence, Solphim, Mayhem Dominus all make your burn spells and ping effects hit harder. This was fun but I found that it put too big of a target on my head.

Instant Death: Basilisk Collar was a great combo for constant creature removal. But again, it put too much of a target on my face and I found that Jaheira became target #1.

Treasures: I used to focus a lot more on treasure synergies and Dragons. The only problem I found was that I could never get enough treasures to make it work consistently. I found that the creature token plan was just more reliable and faster.

Potential Cuts (situation dependent):

  • Repercussion I keep going back and forth on this one. It can be great, but also a liability. "The Dream" for this card is to get my opponents to start really smacking into each other, and if any decide to attack me, I could just block with a token and then sac it before damage is dealt. I've also considered adding more damage doublers like Dictate of the Twin Gods or Gratuitous Violence to make it more reliable.

Outro

That’s the Jaheira + Street Urchin token tycoon: part orchard, part munitions factory, all Gruul. If you want the list to skew spikier, we can jam a compact burn finisher or a few more haste/pump redundancies; if you want more shenanigans, we can expand the Manufactor cookbook.

If you dug this Deck Tech, share it with your pod, or with that one friend who insists “tokens are fair.” They’re not, and Jaheira is why.
